About SpringLight
Were a husband-and-wife team (Shane & Hayley) based in Christchurch, with two wee girls and a love for exploring New Zealand by motorhome. We offer a growing fleet of late model motorhomes clean, reliable, and thoughtfully set up with everything you need. We also manage a number of vehicles for other owners, all looked after with the same care and attention. We had Felix who was brand new to Shane at SpringLight. It was spotless and neat and tidy with gas cooker, gas 3 hob top, good cupboard space, large fridge, compact shower and separate loo and a comfy bed. We loved the bug screens! We made use of the heater on a couple of nights, we were able to phone Shane when we needed assistance with getting the heating going and he was very prompt to help us! Overall an excellent van, easy to drive and park. We would definitely book via SpringLight again in the future.”

They are a small company with personalized care. I have heard it can be very impersonal with the bigger companies. Shane met us at the airport and spent a lot of time with us getting to know the van. He was VERY thorough so we felt comfortable driving away. Also we did not have to wait hours in line to get our van. Another HUGE plus is that the rental company logo is not plastered all over the van. There is a small logo on the back. So you aren't marked as a tourist as you travel around the country. Shane also enjoyed getting pictures of us on our travels. I highly recommend Springlight to anyone travelling to the South Island of New Zealand. ”

“Simple and easy collection of the Tiki-Tourer from Shane. As a first time mo-ho hirer - handover was a tad nerve wracking due to all the warnings about what could go wrong, break or snap off, but after a couple of days all was good and we had a fantastic time discovering the simply beautiful South Island. The van was easy to drive, incredibly well specified with everything you'd need and spotlessly clean. We both enjoyed covering over 1,800 km effortlessly in a week. “Myself and three of my friends hired this van for a week long trip around the South Island of New Zealand. It was absolutely fantastic. The van had everything we need for the week and it was a great way to see the whole of the island. Shane, the owner of Eleanor, met me for the handover and orientation on our first day of the trip. He was very thorough and took his time to explain how everything worked in the van which was superb. We had a couple of issues during the week but he was super easy to get ahold of over the phone and everything was sorted quickly and efficiently. The van itself is relatively straightforward to drive. It is very comfy for four adults and comes well equipped with everything you might need for your travels. We hired the BBQ and used it several nights on our adventure. I cannot thank Shane enough for all of his help over the week. We all had such a fantastic experience renting the van and would highly recommend it to anyone keen on seeing more than just one or two places of the country. ”

One-way hires may be possible by prior arrangement. A relocation fee applies: $1,500 within the South Island or $2,000 within the North Island. The return location must be near an airport.
Hiring rules * We are closed for vehicle handovers on Sundays (unless arranged in advance) and the following dates: 25 December to 1 January, Easter Friday to Easter Monday, and all public holidays. * We have variable minimum hire periods, which are longer over the peak season (usually 14 days). * Pick-up and return times must be between 9:30am and 4:00pm. Late returns (after 4:00pm) may incur an additional day’s hire charge. * No smoking or vaping in the vehicle or under the awning (if fitted). Failure to comply may result in a $500 cleaning fee. * No cooking of strong-smelling foods such as curries inside the vehicle. Failure to comply may result in a $500 cleaning fee. * No pets are permitted. * The vehicle must be returned with a full tank of diesel and AdBlue, gas refilled and grey/black water tanks emptied. Failure to do so will result in a fee of $150, plus the cost of diesel, AdBlue and gas. * Please allow 45 to 90 minutes to complete pick-up and 10 to 30 minutes for drop-off procedures. * The vehicle must be returned clean. Dishes washed and put away, bench surfaces wiped down, sand and dirt swept out. Failure to do so will result in a fee of $150. * If a BBQ is hired, it must be returned clean. Failure to do so will result in a fee of $100. * Awnings are high-risk items and must be used carefully. On some older vehicles, awning damage may incur an additional charge depending on the age of the awning and the cover that applies. * All SpringLight hires include unlimited mileage, meaning there is no additional kilometre surcharge for the hire itself. Road User Charges (RUCs) are separate and are calculated from the vehicle’s odometer reading at return. RUCs are charged at a rate of $0.09 per km. * Road restrictions apply as follows: (a) Vehicles can only be driven on sealed/bitumen roads. (b) Vehicles are not permitted on Skippers Road (Queenstown), Ball Hut Road (Mt. Cook), Ninety Mile Beach (Northland) and North of Colville Township (Coromandel Peninsula). Our vehicles are also not permitted on any ski field access roads. * One-way hires are permitted but must be arranged before the hire is booked. A relocation fee applies. $1,500 within the South Island or $2,000 within the North Island. The return location must be near an airport.
Yes. All SpringLight hires include unlimited mileage, meaning there is no additional kilometre surcharge for the hire itself. Road User Charges are separate and are calculated from the vehicle’s odometer reading at return.
Yes, many of our motorhomes are fitted with bike racks, but not every vehicle has one. If you are planning to bring bikes or eBikes, please let us know before booking so we can confirm the right motorhome and make sure the bike rack is checked and ready for your trip. Most bike racks are rated up to 60kg, which may suit up to 2 eBikes or up to 4 regular bikes, depending on the vehicle and rack fitted. Some motorhomes only have space for 2 bikes.
